The electric utility industry buys equipment designed specifically for substation usage. Over the last few decades, the industry has begun a transition from electromechanical devices to all-digital, microprocessor-equipped devices in an attempt to gather more information and use it more effectively. This equipment is generally designed by individual vendors, and each vendor’s hardware uses a different protocol, or protocol variant. Just as Microsoft created Office as a suite of applications for the corporate world, SUBNET created Substation Suite as a set of applications for the substation world. Substation Explorer, for example, mimics the Windows Explorer interface, minimizing the learning curve, but contains objects, such as single line diagrams, designed specifically for substations. Using the power of Microsoft Windows and our own translation software, we developed a human machine interface (HMI) that was both easy to use, and standards compliant. Imagine designing an entire alarm annunciator solution and customized HMI for your substation in less than a day, and being able to instantly send that data to other software using open standards like OPC, or simply exporting it to Microsoft Excel. That’s the power of Substation Explorer. 

The release of SubstationSERVER.NET marked SUBNET’s shift to accommodate a new paradigm for Microsoft and the world. When industries across the globe demanded the ability to instantly and securely share information between applications and offices, Microsoft responded with its .NET initiative. As utility companies began to require that information previously limited to SCADA engineers be shared with IT divisions and beyond, SUBNET realized that a similar initiative would be required in substations, and SubstationSERVER.NET was born. Seamlessly translating the 40+ languages spoken by substation devices, collecting that data into a single hub, and then making it available wherever it is needed, SubstationSERVER.NET is a uniquely powerful and easy to use substation information server.  

EnterpriseSERVER continues the SUBNET tradition of easily sharing information that was previously difficult to access, bringing data right from a substation to your desk. EnterpriseSERVER gives you the ability to securely log into any substation from any internet-enabled machine you choose, and communicate directly with the devices you want. Additionally, it allows you to restrict access to individual substations, and even customize the applications a specific user can use in a specific substation.
