Leverage your Current IT Investments
You've already got a significant investment in corporate IT
infrastructure. Adding proprietary hardware and custom software
to secure your substation is an unnecessary layer of complexity
and cost. Instead, by understanding the value of the knowledge
and the technology you're already using to protect your
corporate network, you can extend it to protect your substation
network. Based on Microsoft Windows® Server 2003 and Terminal
Services, EnterpriseSERVER.NET is hardware-independent, and requires
no special client-side applications. So, if you're using Windows
in your corporate network, you're already halfway there. |

NERC
CIP Compliance
With the advent of the new
NERC Critical
Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirement standards
(previously known as NERC 1300), securing substation information
without compromising your ability to get it to the right people
just got a whole lot more complicated. If you are an Electric Utility in
the United States, you must comply to these government issued
standards by as early as Q1, 2006. It's a daunting task, but
there are ways to achieve it quickly and affordably.
What is NERC CIP and how does it apply to me? Read the FAQ for
more information.
In today's
fast-paced utility market, on-demand access to the right
information is a critical factor in cost management and
outage prevention. The more information you can get from
your substations, the more time and money you can save.
At the same time, protecting your substation and
communication networks has never been more important.
Increased public awareness after September 11th and the
August 13th, 2003
blackout, combined with stricter government regulations, means
that security is now both a shareholder concern and a public
necessity. However, the
need for remote substation access is still vital to the success
of any utility. The challenge is to find an effective balance
between remote access and complete security.
